Treasure hunted down live on Poppyland Radio

In response to pleas from disappointed BBC radio listeners and a torrent of social media chatter, Poppyland Radio have stepped into the air space vacated by an old Radio Norfolk show. Inspired by ‘Treasure Quest’ which fell victim to BBC cuts to local radio services in September last year, Poppyland Radio are launching ‘Treasure Hunt’ on Sunday, 3 March.

Listeners phone in or message the studio to solve a series of clues that will hopefully lead the Poppyland Radio car to the ‘treasure’ somewhere in Norfolk. Poppyland Radio MD and presenter Will Wilson needed no persuading when Treasure Quest was cancelled by the BBC after 15 years on air.

“Treasure Quest was a great concept, brilliantly delivered by the presenters and production team and loved by listeners. Our own listeners suggested we take the old format and give it a Poppyland twist so, with the help of the Poppyland Radio team, we’re bringing ‘Treasure Hunt’ back home to Norfolk.”

Anchoring the show from Poppyland Radio’s studio complex ‘The Pod’ in north Norfolk – popular presenter ‘Blunders’ will rely on help from listeners to solve the clues set by Poppyland Radio quizmaster Steve Osborn. He’ll pass on instructions directly to the Poppyland Radio car driven by Mr. Mike and co-pilot Claire Goldwater (The Mardle), which will be zig-zagging across Norfolk to solve the clues and ultimately, find the treasure.

Once the treasure has been successfully hunted down it will be delivered to a lucky local hero nominated by a listener. That’s the theory anyway, but as it’s a live show, you’ll have to listen online to see what happens. What could possibly go wrong?!

When we find the treasure in 'Treasure Hunt', we'll be presenting it to one lucky listener live on air. Who should it be? Maybe someone celebrating a big birthday, a local hero who deserves a treat or someone who's achieved something amazing against all the odds? Nominate your 'local treasure' and Poppyland Radio may be making their Sunday. Email studio@poppylandradio.co.uk, let us know who, why and where the prize should go (North Norfolk addresses only). We're looking for 'local treasures' to celebrate in March, April and May at the moment.

Treasure Hunt is broadcast live on Poppyland Radio on Sundays from 10am-1pm, starting on 3 March. Poppyland Radio is available online at poppylandradio.co.uk, via your smart speaker or the free Poppyland Radio app which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
